The Lackawanna Cutoff Historical Committee is bringing the Signal Bridge Back Home!
About the Signal Bridge
The Lackawanna Cutoff Historical Committee is currently working to bring the historic Greendell Signal Bridge back home to Greendell Station — and we need your help to make it happen.
While much of the logistical planning for the move has already been completed, funding is still needed to help cover transportation and relocation costs. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated and will directly support the effort to relocate and preserve this important piece of Lackawanna Cutoff history for future generations.

The Greendell Signal Bridge was one of the most recognizable features at Greendell Station on the Lackawanna Cutoff. Located immediately west of the station beside the Wolfs Corner Road overpass, the bridge was originally constructed to span three tracks. Following the single-tracking of the Cutoff in 1958, the bridge continued to serve the remaining main track and the four-mile-long Greendell siding, which rejoined the main line just west of the station.
The signal bridge remained in service until the end of freight operations on the Lackawanna Cutoff under Conrail in 1978. It continued to stand for many years afterward before being dismantled in the early 2000s during the demolition of the Wolfs Corner Road bridge.
Following its removal from Greendell, the signal bridge was transported to Phillipsburg, New Jersey, where it was preserved for the proposed New Jersey Transportation Heritage Center project. Although that project was never realized, the bridge itself was saved. Around 2011, the structure was relocated to the site of Phillipsburg Union Tower through the efforts of Ron Titus and the PU Tower group. Thanks to their preservation efforts, the Greendell Signal Bridge still exists today.
In October 2025, the Lackawanna Cutoff Historical Committee began discussions with the PU Tower group regarding the possibility of returning the signal bridge to its original home at Greendell Station. The PU Tower group generously agreed to transfer ownership of the bridge and support efforts to relocate it back to Greendell.
Today, plans are actively underway to make the return of the signal bridge a reality, helping restore an important visual landmark of the Lackawanna Cutoff and preserve its history for future generations.
What are the plans for the signal bridge once it returns to Greendell?
Due to changes in the surrounding area, the Lackawanna Cutoff Historical Committee does not currently plan to re-erect the signal bridge at its exact original location.
The bridge will instead be placed on the Greendell Station property. The committee will continue to evaluate the best long-term placement on site after restoration and repair of the structure.

Huge thank you to the PU Tower Organization and Ron Titus for being stewards of the bridge ever since it was removed from Greendell. The Lackawanna Cutoff Historical Committee is extremely grateful for this opportunity to return the bridge back home.
